Description hubertstar 2011-08-01 04:00:31 UTC
my dpi is 96, after upgrade to media-libs/freetype-2.4.6, 8px mono fonts look like larger and too ugly ( DejaVu Sans Mono, droid sans mono and other mono fonts ), and larger space of letter.

downgrade to media-libs/freetype-2.4.5 or media-libs/freetype-2.4.4 can fix it.

It is a bug?

Reproducible: Always

Probably due to:

CHANGES BETWEEN 2.4.5 and 2.4.6

  I. IMPORTANT BUG FIXES

    - For TrueType based fonts, the ascender and descender values were
incorrect sometimes (off by a pixel if the ppem value was not a
multiple of 5). Depending on the use you might now experience
a different layout; the change should result in better, more
      consistent line spacing.

I've noticed a couple changes but nothing too drastic. If you think you have a legitimate bug, try reproducing it with ftview (USE="utils") and filing a report upstream.
