When pdflatex is run even on a very small LaTeX file (just a few lines), it produces a huge PDF file of ~ 250 M but full of 0. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. pdflatex tmp.tex 2. 3. Actual Results: See PDF attached. Expected Results: A PDF file of size a few K. This is a PPC machine with the latest version of texlive. The problem does not occur on some other platforms but with different versions of texlive. This bug might be related to bug #372767 since it occurs on the same machine after the problem of installing texlive-basic has been solved. Using latex -> dvips -> ps2pdf produces a right PDF file.
Please post "equery b /usr/bin/pdftex" output
I tried your tex file and what I got was a 17kb file. (machine fully updated(~x86)). This is weird. Please, also paste the output of this oneliner: for file in $(ldd /usr/bin/pdflatex | awk '{print $3}'); do qfile -v "${file}"; done (just copy-paste in in your active shell)

Are you sure your machine is fully updated? Can you try a "emerge --update --deep --with-bdeps y --ask y texlive" and try to generate that pdf again?
I have updated to texlive-2011 that has just appeared in the tree yesterday and the problem has disappeared.
(In reply to comment #9) > I have updated to texlive-2011 that has just > appeared in the tree yesterday and the problem > has disappeared. should be fixed by texlive-core-2010-r4 afaik too -> fixed
