Description Bernhard Schmidt 2004-01-08 16:21:01 UTC
IPv6-only rsync mirror rsync17.de.gentoo.org aka majestix.birkenwald.de (2001:7b0:11ff:1::1:1) will be relocated on Tuesday, Jan 13th and will change IPv4 and IPv6 address therefor.

Please take it out of the de-rotation (v6-sync is broken anyways due to bug 37124), I will drop a note here as soon as I know the new addresses.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Ok, these addresses have been removed. Let us know when the new addresses are in place.

Cheers!

Bernhard, any updates?
Comment 3 Bernhard Schmidt 2004-03-13 09:52:30 UTC
Uups, almost forgot. The new server is in place and would work as expected. But since we will be renumbering to our own address space in about a month and still noone could ever sync with IPv6 (due to that portage/rsync bug) I don't see a need to put additional load to the box and the master by syncing every 30 minutes.

So I'd say you either defer the bug (and close it if necessary) and I'll open a new one as soon as v6 syncing is possible again.

Sounds good. I'll close this bug as "remind". Whenever you'd like
the IPv6 addresses added, just reopen this bug, or create a new one.

Thanks,
Pete.

Unfortunately I was not able to setup a new mirror yet (since the new company I work for is quite security concerned and there are nitpickers and people with doubts all over the place, but I'm working on it.

It appears that the AAAA record of rsync17.de.gentoo.org has never been removed from the de-rotation.

bash-2.05b# dig -t aaaa rsync.de.gentoo.org +short
2001:7b0:11ff:1::1:1
2001:638:500:101::21

This has not been a problem so far, since emerge has not been able to sync to IPv6 mirrors since 2.0.49-r15. Fix wasn't available due to restrictions of rsync for a long time, but finally there has been some movement, see bug #37124.

Please remove the address from DNS in order to get this fixed, if you say that one server supporting IPv6 is not enough to have IPv6 records in rotation anymore then drop me a note and I'll setup one on my private machine which is bored like hell anyways.

Sorry about the delay, those AAAA records have been removed from DNS.
