Description Martin Mokrejš 2011-07-18 07:36:48 UTC
I got into inspecting the dependencies of gnupg because my seamonkey-2.1 started to complain about gpg-agent not running/configured ("Could not start the gpg-agent program which is needed for your GnuPG version 2.0.17."). I found dirmngr not listed in dependencies of gnupg and wanted to install that to see what happens (looks like to be explained in bug #133377#c3).

What I want to report here is that 'emerge -uNpv' does not list all USE flags, I see only "nls". Is that maybe of the complicated nature of the dirmngr ebuild containing COMMON_DEPEND_LIBS, COMMON_DEPEND_BINS, DEPEND, RDEPEND? Second, I do not understand why openldap is being selected for me.

# emerge -uNpv dirmngr

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

It's only supposed to list the flags that the ebuild lists in the IUSE variable. See IUSE docs here:

  http://devmanual.gentoo.org/ebuild-writing/variables/index.html#required-variables

No, it's the IUSE.

The DEPEND variable contains >=net-nds/openldap-2.1.26:

http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-crypt/dirmngr/dirmngr-1.1.0.ebuild?view=markup

So, I don't see anything wrong here besides misunderstandings. Therefore, reassigning to bug wranglers.

Oh, sorry, I was partly glancing over app-crypt/gnupg-2.0.17.ebuild which has much longer IUSE line and has openldap wrapped under ldap USE flag. Looks I did not recover from the weekend trip yet. ;)

Just thinking whether the gnupg ebuild should still contain '!app-crypt/gpg-agent' as that package is probably gone from the tree. Something of the same name belongs under gnupg nowadays.

Blockers like this are required in order to force removal of obsolete packages that are installed on on peoples. Without the blocker, users would experience a file collision.

I think this has been resolved as a misunderstanding per Zac. Please reopen this if you still think something is wrong.
