Yeah, there's no 1.9-compatible hgsubversion yet. You should either revert to Mercurial 1.8.x or try hgsubversion tip from the repository.

http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/HgSubversion#Installation_and_Configuration says that tip “is much more stable than” 1.2.1.

So, IMO, hgsubversion should be upgraded to some snapshot from the repository. Alternatively, a patch against 1.2.1 could be extracted from the repository and added to the 1.2.1 ebuild, creating 1.2.1-r1 or so.

This bug is fixed in revision a3f727c41c1d from 2011-05-14T21:44:07+02:00.

At the very least *DEPEND should be updated...

I just bumped hgsubversion to 1.3. Does that resolve this issue?

Yes. hgsubversion 1.3. works ok with mercurial 1.9 and 2.0
