See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678625 When an access point broadcasts an invalid WPA IE, wpa_supplicant eventually crashes. And when using networkmanager-0.8999, wpa_supplicant (launched by networkmanager) crashes almost instantly. This makes it utterly impossible to e.g. use my laptop's wifi in a particular shopping mall near my home. Patching wpa_supplicant-0.7.3-r3 with Owen Taylor's wpa_supplicant-0.7.3-prop-failure.patch (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=491018) fixes the problem and allows me to use wifi.
Patch added to 0.7.3-r4
Please try wpa_supplicant-1.0 and see if that works too. The patch is not compatible with the version, but there has been several fixes to that file, so the problem might be fixed another way. Could you please test and see?

Unfortunately, the problem seems to be present again in 1.0. I visited the same shopping mall yesterday, and saw the IE-related failures in my networkmanager logs when using wpa_supplicant-1.0 that disappeared after downgrading to wpa_supplicant-0.7.3-r5.
Hmm, i'm unable to provoke this problem at my end. Could I get you to take it upstream, and work with them on it? http://lists.shmoo.com/mailman/listinfo/hostap Better than me being the middle man forwarding communication :)
Still failing on 2.0 and 2.1?
please retry with 2.6-r4
