Starting qgit4 will result in an error message for me: === Error - QGit === An error occurred while executing command: git repo-config --get i18n.commitencoding Git says: WARNING: git repo-config is deprecated in favor of git config. So it seems that qgit should be updated to use the newer command. Others have reported this issue in other places, including the SF tracker which appears to be the most official upstream bug reporting facility available: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3305565&group_id=139897&atid=744827 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=626008 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=708251 The Debian report has a patch as well. The Fedora changelog states that this should affect >=git-1.7.5. So I'd say include the fix unconditionally and adjust the dep. The upstream git repo at http://git.kernel.org/?p=qgit/qgit4.git hasn't seen a commit in over a year. There are some forks at github, and one of them has a fix for this as well: https://github.com/dagenaisj/qgit4/commit/6a4f1086114478e5f0be9929da92aad4
SF has an uncommitted patch, too: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3299672&group_id=139897&atid=744829 Can we please get this fixed for Gentoo?
In http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=744827&aid=3305565&group_id=139897 inorog writes that the new qgit-2.4 release announced at http://libre.tibirna.org/news/1 should fix this issue. So please bump.
Fixed in 2.4, just committed to CVS.
