when i try to emerge OpenOffice, i get errors when compiling sb.obj :

change your CFLAGS & CXXFLAGS as follows:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS=${CFLAGS}
and try again

Actually this looks more like an out of memory or diskspace, are you sure your disk didn't fill up. Also: Do you still get this error when you try again?
