Current versions of ecore require fribidi to build, otherwise it fails with the following error: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.5.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lfribidi Installing a current version of dev-libs/fribidi fixes this. I didn't do any further digging so I don't know what version is required or if my configuration (see emerge --info below) causes this. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. I am not able to reproduce this, even when i use the exact USE flag combination you have used, so i suspect some issue specific to your machine, most likely some mivbehaving .la file introducing such additional linker flag, also it is not required nor should it be there. Because of this, i will close this bug as invalid, but feel free to reopen it, if you find some way for others to reproduce this failure.
You were I right, I had some orphaned .la files lying around (thanks to lafilefixer, I guess). Removing them resolved this issue. Thanks for the help.
