Description Erik Müller 2004-01-04 14:33:18 UTC
I can not install gentoo tonight because ftp.gnu.org is down.
I think it would be up again in just a few hours, but please read on)

This the third try to do a new gentoo installation on my notebook.
In the last few days there where servers down or source packages used in the ebuilds updated. (Bug #37012 and #37009)
I did four Gentoo installations before and had no problems to build the system. (By the way Gentoo is realy great and the docs are very good.)

Are there any toughts to enhance alternative mirror sites to the ebuilds.
If one server is not available or the source package could not be found the next server in the list is used.
At the moment the first emerge system is aborted and i have to manually search a mirror site and edit the ebuild file.
If you have to do this a few times you don

If a package uses an existing mirror system it's used, if it has only a single download location it's on our mirrors if there isn't any reason against it (license not permitting re-distribution the most common one).
So if a package can't be downloaded please file a new bug for that specific package so we can fix it or find a workaround.
