If I start rip -c I will get the error message as described in bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36518. However, the command cddb.pl (version 2.23) gives the correct information.

version of CDDB-get included into the rip 1.07 ebuild is below version 2

this is fixed in portage.
