cdk is pulled in when gphoto2 is merged with "ncurses" USE flag. Have you tried to run "lafilefixer --justfixit" after updating cdk? Have you tried to downgrade to cdk 5.0.20090215 ?
"lafilefixer --justfixit" did not help neither at orca nor at caiman ("lafilefixer --justfixit" does not find any file to update). If I downgrade to cdk-5.0.20090215 I can emerge gphoto2 at orca and caiman without problems. And why works 'emerge gphoto2' with existing ncurses USE flag but without libcdk at condor? root@condor:/root(28)# emerge -v1 gphoto2 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! Looks to be a different problem hitting us also, for example, in my case cdk installation is not detected because configure things some headers are missing (and they are not), see attached config.log when manually running configure

USE="-ncurses" allowed compilation to complete on my system.
USE="-ncurses" works for me too. But I do not yet understand, why it works also on some systems with USE="ncurses".
Even 'emerge -uveDN systems' which reemerged about 716 packages did not improve the situation. Emerge still looks for libcdk.

The original problem is caused by cdk appending "w" to library names when compiled with "unicode" USE flag. As cdk is maintainer-needed, will ask committer about why he added this as it breaks things
This bug is caused by cdk as seen with gphoto2 upstream
This also causes bug 371941
(In reply to comment #17) > The original problem is caused by cdk appending "w" to library names when > compiled with "unicode" USE flag. As cdk is maintainer-needed, will ask > committer about why he added this as it breaks things I added that because I thought having the option for unicode support would be good. I guess it's expected that programs linking against cdk would use cdk5-config to find what libraries to link against. To fix the problem we can either patch programs to use cdk5-config or I can patch cdk to not change the library name when linking against the ncurses unicode-enabled library.
Created attachment 278805 [details, diff] Use cdk5-config This patch should make gphoto2 use cdk5-config to determine the correct CFLAGS and LIBS to use. The ebuild will have to apply it and use eautoreconf of course.
