GPU accelerated 2D Canvas is now enabled by default in dev branch but this accelerated mode is slower (about both felt "smoothness" and displayed framerates) than software mode on my system (nvidia video card with proprietary driver). Despite its appearance, this canvas test does not use WebGL (no 3d context) but I think some slowness in accelerated webgl tests may be related: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348841 There's an upstream "fixed" bug about slow accelerated canvas (http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=71644) with 2 other canvas tests but I'm not so sure it's really fixed: *
