Were you using distcc or ccache while compiling?

I can't reproduce this using the same CXXFLAGS without either of those.

No. I'm was not and am not using distcc or ccache although they are installed.

PS: Sorry for the late reply. For some reason I did not get an e-mail notification for your comment. The bug still persists thou.

Comment 5 Tim Harder gentoo-dev 2012-01-04 17:36:13 UTC
This seems like a bug related to hardened then since it appears to only occur there.
Comment 6 Nikoli 2012-01-07 09:39:29 UTC
Bug exists in app-text/highlight-3.7.
Comment 7 Nikoli 2012-02-25 11:40:53 UTC
Builds fine now, possibly is related to gcc update (gcc-4.5.3-r1 -> gcc-4.5.3-r2)

Portage 2.1.10.44 (hardened/linux/amd64, gcc-4.5.3, glibc-2.13-r4, 3.2.6-hardened x86_64)

app-text/highlight-3.7 was built with the following:
USE="(multilib) qt4 test -examples"
Comment 8 Magnus Granberg gentoo-dev 2012-02-25 15:04:51 UTC
If you rebuild gcc-4.5.3-r2 do the error go away or is it still there?
Pch and hardened is a know problem, that way we in most cases disable pch in packages.

yes likely a hardened 'thing'.

Based on comment 7, I'm marking this resolved. If there is still an issue, please reopen.

app-text/highlight-3.3 builds fine NOW. However based on this discussion I don't understand what the exact cause was, nor do I understand what or where the fix was. Or whether there was any fix at all. In summary this makes me uneasy about whether this issue is really fixed or just hidden underneath the carpet for the time being, waiting to hit us again in the future...

Look at bug #301299 if you need more info about the pch and hardened problem.
