I've had major trouble with dbus errors after upgrading to dbus-1.4.8-r1 KDE was taking ages to start up, processes within KDE would also take forever to begin and USB devices wouldn't connect. I've masked the package and reverted to dbus-1.4.6 and everything is working correctly again. The errors I got in kdm.log are as follows klauncher(32635) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server. kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting! kdmgreet(32629)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed: "Not connected to D-Bus server" Dbus was running and restarting it made no difference. System running on ~x86_64 Reproducible: Always
Please post your `emerge --info' output too.
Try dbus-1.4.10 instead, 1.4.8* is now unused in tree and will never go stable.
Upgrade to dbus-1.4.10 cured the problem. Problem solved, many thanks.
