The bootsplash now only shows "initiating the kernel" to the end of the boot sequence. No progress bar, no verbose mode. When using splash_manager demo mode, verbose mode only creates glitches. I can't be certain since I updated many things at the same time, but it seems to be related with baselayout2 update. Reproducible: Always
IIRC A re-install of splashutils is required to get it working properly with Baselayout2. It took me a while to figure out the root of the issue but it is certainly fixable.
Please post your `emerge --info' output too.

Could you please reinstall splashutils, run splash_manager -c demo -t livecd-2007.0, and let us know what you see after you run this command?
Forget it, reinstalling it worked. Though it's wierd that revdep-rebuild didn't notice any problems...
