martin: if you're refering to gentoo-src/rc-scripts than only azarah should be doing modification to that tree (or anyone he gives permission to)
Comment 3 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-11 09:30:37 UTC
The list is extensive, but I guess it will need some cleanup, and verify
that we have covered all names/aliases we use in our builds/whatnot. I
do not know when I will get to it though.

here is a list of services which are found in both our /etc/services and at the
URL but are not called the same thing
Comment 6 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-01-11 13:46:54 UTC
so, any service that ISNT listed in either of those attachments means that it is found in both our /etc/services and at that URL and they are called the samething and use the same port #/protocol

i didnt bother to include the list of services which can be found at the URL and not in our /etc/services ;)

should speed up things for you az :)

You might want to look at FreeBSD's list of services:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/etc/services (cvsweb)

They do, as far as I can understand from an FreeBSD developer, try to keep up with IANA's list at http://iana.netnod.se/assignments/port-numbers (OK, not totally, but that list is also _very_ extensive.)

Anyho, /etc/services is only 384 lines currently while FreeBSD's is 2117. I know it not a race for getting the most in there, but currently I'm personaly missing

submission 587/tcp
submission 587/udp

so maybe using the FreeBSD list would not be that bad...

<a href="http://www.musicpd.org/>MPD (Music Player Deamon)</a> typically runs on port 6600. Just noticed this wasn't in /etc/services when i ran an nmap scan of myself. This seemed to be roughly the place to mention it.
Comment 9 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-10-04 17:23:59 UTC
ok, screw those lists, i just imported a ton from IANA

if you have specific port requests that i missed (look in cvs first!), please post them here

the request for submission (port 587) is at Bug 52881

the rquotad (Bug 21835) request wont be added because i wasnt able to find it in the IANA list or any other distribution ... IANA for example defines port 4003 as:
pxc-splr-ft 4003/tcp
pxc-splr-ft 4003/udp
