Description Malte Starostik 2011-05-26 09:26:46 UTC
sys-apps/sysvinit and especially mountpoint(1) is compiled without defining _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64. This leads to problems when stat(2)ing CIFS (and maybe other) filesystems with large inode numbers.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
$ mkdir mounted-cifs-share
$ mount -t cifs -o $opts //$server/$share mounted-cifs-share/
$ mountpoint mounted-cifs-share/

Actual Results:
mountpoint: mounted-cifs-share/: Value too large for defined data type

Note the inode #:
$ stat mounted-cifs-share/
File: „mounted-cifs-share/“
Size: 0 Blocks: 0 IO Block: 16384 Verzeichnis
Device: 1bh/27d Inode: 281474976710692 Links: 1
[...]

Expected Results:
mounted-cifs-share/ is a mountpoint

As per $URL, upstream leaves this up to packaging:
> It is up on you, the packager, to use e.g. the output of
> getconf LFS_CFLAGS
> with e.g.
> make CFLAGS="$(getconf LFS_CFLAGS)"

No patch for now as I can't judge whether getconf would be the way to go for an ebuild (what about cross-emerges etc?) or whether just to include the define unconditionally (are there still systems not supporting stat64()?).

Happens on x86, but naturally not on amd64. Guess other 32-bit platforms might be affected as well.

Thanks for the report! I'd vote for always defining it as well... but its up to the maintainers to decide what makes most sense.
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2011-05-31 13:13:01 UTC
if they converted to autotools, they could do this transparently. until then, the ebuild appends LFS flags for everyone in sysvinit-2.88-r2.
