Description Rev. Jeffrey Paul 2003-12-30 11:30:28 UTC
I'm attemping to emerge mod_php. During the configure stage of aspell (one of the prerequisites), it claims my C++ compiler can't create executables.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
checking for strip... strip
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++... g++
checking for C++ compiler default output... configure: error: C++ compiler
cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.

Reverend, could you please attach the config.log file that's in /var/tmp/portage/aspell-whatever/work/aspell-whatever to this bug report

az, according to the attached config.log, the reverend's g++ compiler segfaulted with an internal error -- is that a known-ish issue with 3.2.3-r3 or is it a hardware thingy?

Reverend, is your hardware ok? fans and stuff running as they should, cpu temps nice and low, etc?
Comment 4 Rev. Jeffrey Paul 2003-12-30 18:07:59 UTC
the machine had a weird issue a few days ago (it's in a temperature and humidity controlled room at a colocation facility) where the system processes all stopped responding but the kernel kept running (and no oops or panic) but it's been running flawlessly for the 2+ months in production before that and the week since. nothing else segfaults on the machine.

it's worth noting that i did an emerge -u world on it last week and it rebuilt glibc and gcc. maybe re-emerging gcc could solve the problem?

i'll give it a shot and let you know. i really don't think it's the hardware, but i've been wrong before.

What's the news on this, sir?
Comment 6 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2004-01-02 20:20:41 UTC
does it reproducably segfault at that point ?

Reverend, if you can provide more info or updates, please reopen this bug.
