One more note about this setup; the host used for this was IPv6-enabled so it would have connected to the IPv6 addresses for rsync.gentoo.org. This looked to be a subset of the mirrors in the IPv4 round-robin.
Comment 2 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2011-05-19 00:23:57 UTC
I show that of the two IPv6 addresses for rsync.gentoo.org,
2607:f740:0:29:230:48ff:fef8:a064 is out of date but 2a01:4f8:120:1222::2
appears correct.
Comment 3 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2011-05-19 00:44:46 UTC
The out-of-date server is magpie.gentoo.org, as both 2607:f740:0:29:230:48ff:fef8:a064 and 209.177.148.226 are giving out of date portage trees. On an unrelated note, I get a SERVFAIL whenever I try to do a reverse lookup on 2607:f740:0:29:230:48ff:fef8:a064.
Comment 4 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2011-05-19 13:10:35 UTC
Yikes, thanks for the report. We have identified a weakness in our configuration. I have removed the server from DNS while we are fixing it. Thanks again.
Comment 5 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2011-05-19 18:10:16 UTC
fixed, thx again.
