1) Please post your `emerge --info media-gfx/sane-backends' output (or similar) too.
2) Please attach the entire build log.

Exactly same situation here (using cave too)
Comment 5 reno reckling 2011-05-22 11:26:49 UTC
I can confirm this bug.
Readme.hotplug is missing
Using cave too
Comment 6 Simon Kohlmeyer 2011-05-26 00:40:40 UTC
I can see this error too. It also occurs with sane-backends-1.0.22-r1
Comment 7 buzz22 2011-05-27 21:47:30 UTC
Just a typo in the ebuild I guess. The line 209 has to be update to something like:

newdoc tools/hotplug/README README.hotplug

Patch fixing the ebuild

Attached a patch for convenience.
I really wonder why this doesn't hit portage users, though.
Comment 9 Harrison Metzger 2011-05-30 21:33:22 UTC
using cave as well. Can we get this into the official ebuild?

Paludis checks more things and more often treats them as errors. (And it caught this one for me, too.)
Comment 11 cJ 2011-06-19 02:48:20 UTC
sane-backends-1.22-r1 still has this.
Comment 12 Franz Trischberger 2011-07-16 08:31:15 UTC
Please could some dev fix this issue?
The recent changes were non-maintainer commits (is there still an active maintainer for sane-backends?), so this little change should not be an issue.
Comment 13 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2011-08-08 18:05:02 UTC
Sorry for the delay, I've fixed the typo in 1.0.22-r1.

It should emerge/paludis/other fine now, thanks everybody
