Description Carol Sanders 2003-12-29 04:59:29 UTC
I've made partitions for / /boot, /mnt/gentoo but when I attempt to mkreiserfs /dev/sda3 (only 350MB) my system hangs and I have to reboot or reset it. I have dual Pentium III, 500MB memory, 512k cache.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot from livecd
2.create partitions using fdisk
3.mkreiserfs /dev/sda3

Actual Results:
system hangs, loose console access.

Expected Results:
return me to prompt and created file reiser filesystem

I've tried on two similar pentium3 systems with similar results.

which version of reiserfsprogs ?
Comment 2 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-10 13:36:56 UTC
Please try reiserfsprogs-3.6.12

I determined that when using any scsi disk with Adaptec scsi adapters the kernel is caught in a loop attempting to reassign the adapter's address. I have rebuilt two systems from stage1 using ide disks and haven't seem many problems except when using scsi.

I'm using the version of reiserfs that comes with your 2.4.22 kernel.

kernel problem ... suggest you try updating
Comment 5 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-13 02:05:21 UTC
Yep, what happens when you run a newer kernel? Preferably 2.6.x
Comment 6 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-22 17:05:38 UTC
Please reopen if issue still exists with newer kernels.
