My russian is a bit rusty, but this document has some good pointers to the users. Is any of the russian folks interested in translating it to English? If not, I can do it (but my TODO list is growing insane :)
Comment 3 Sergey Kuleshov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-30 03:46:33 UTC
I'll take. Also I guess I've got couple of usefull points to add to this HOWTO.

Here is a translation of this guide to English. I've made couple of changes to the orignal, which are marked as comment at the moment. Sergey, could you plz have a look at them and tell if they are ok?

Some coding style applied.
Some typos and language mistakes corrected.
Some <!--comments--> added, __please review__.
Comment 10 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-09 05:38:42 UTC
Is this document still needed? It covers dependencies which are automatically fulfilled when using Portage. Other aspects are still useful for 2.4-users though. Perhaps this guide can be finished off and submitted?

migration-to-2.6.xml rewritten

Ok. Here's a completely new document. I've basically rewritten what was posted
here already and structured it differently also. I hope this is ok, and I'm
really grateful for the work posted here already - other than a few parts out
of date and some comments I disagreed with, it has been really useful.

Oh, i've also taken on the full monty and talked about migrating from devfs to
udev and oss to alsa too, plus some chitchat about NPTL. This is what I (as a
kernel developer) hope we can have solidly in place for 2005.0.

Please take a look - if its OK, I'd like to get it in CVS soon. I'm planning to
coordinate this with some forum users performing the migrations and update the
document with their feedback.

Hi Tim, could you take a quick look over the file I just attached to this bug and let me know what you think? Thanks :)

A few minor updates mostly based on Tim's feedback. The upcoming diff should
make these changes more obvious to you.

Sven, we (me+plasmaroo) are happy with this for now. Could you please fix this
up and commit it when you have the time. thanks :)

/doc/en/migration-to-2.6.xml edited v3

For the record, edited version that has just been committed.

BTW, running xmllint would have been nice. Non-compliance to guide.dtd is
understandable from anyone not used to GuideXML, but file was not even proper
xml. Sigh.
Anyway, all issues have been fixed.
Comment 18 Xavier Neys (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-09 14:13:31 UTC
Now in CVS and linked from main index.
Thanks a lot for a well-written comprehensive guide.
