Description Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-29 02:44:46 UTC
I'm testing the stage1-x86-20031228.tar.bz2, after chroot in the new environment portage is grumbling about missing /sbin/depscan.sh.

# env-update
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
[] bash: line 1: /sbin/depscan.sh: No such file or directory
Comment 1 Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-29 02:56:06 UTC
Seems to be only a stage1 problem, stage2/3 contain depscan.sh
Comment 2 Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-29 06:37:44 UTC
Maybe I misunderstood the error message a little.
The problem is that this error message bumps up, not that depscan.sh is missing.
Comment 3 Benjamin Judas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-29 09:37:24 UTC
No, you're right. The symbolic link /etc/init.d/depscan.sh points to nowhere. There's no /sbin/depscan.sh.
Comment 4 Benjamin Judas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-29 12:55:00 UTC
This is a known bug. env-update always assumes that depscan.sh is present in the system. A patch has already been created and will be in one of the future portage-versions. This error message is just a cosmetic problem.

How is this cosmetic/fixed?
depscan.sh is supposed to be part of baselayout, the package is marked as installed, and the file is missing.
I just tried installing from 2005.1-r1 which is the latest stage I found on mirrors, and the file is still missing.
Comment 9 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-01-10 10:48:10 UTC
completely obsolete bug
Comment 10 Michal Suchanek 2006-01-10 13:24:44 UTC
I am still missing the file.
Shoud I file a brand new non-obsolete bug than?
