it compiles well, but i didn't see any daemon in /etc/init.d to start.

Is enough a test based on compilation or we do other?

There is no init script because esmtp is not a smtp server.  In other words, the packages does not provide a daemon to run.  It is a relay-only command line MTA with sendmail compatible syntax.

While actually using the program to send mail is preferable, compile only should also be fine for testing purposes.  This is a rather simple program that relies on net-libs/libesmtp to do most of the work.
