gf2x-1.0 has been released in November 2010. The current ebuild for 0.9.5 will work but the variable PID needs to be changed to 27999 for fetching on the INRIA servers.

In version 1.0 there is a new optimization option pclmul (an intel ISA extension) that will trump sse2 if found. This version is still suffering from bug #366945 and any use flag added for pclmul will have the same issue as part of the discovery process is automagic.

In addition I checked that dev-libs/ntl was compiling against this version of gf2x.
