In chapter 3. Things to do after the upgrade at the end of first section there is a suggestion to set some kernel settings (in Code Listing 3.5). There is no explanation why. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: There is no explanation why. Expected Results: There should be explanation what package requires those settings (no hal, dbus, kdelibs, polkit, consolekit, ...??) and if those changes are required or optional, and if optional, what functionality will not work.
I put url do documentation in URL field, but maybe not everone will see it there, it's: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde44-46-upgrade.xml
Steps in documentation are from http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-858965-highlight-openrc.html, and there is some explanation why those kernel settings are needed.
I'm sorry, but I would like to keep the upgrade guide as short and concise as possible. Everybody's then free to do some research and figure this out... As far as I know the switches should not break anything.
Have mercy for the little ones, like me, that aren't so all-knowing and are unable to find reliable explanation of those kernel settings and why they are needed there. Add those few gold-plated words, I'm sure there are not worth your precious time, but will be so appreciated by rest of us. I believe that putting this knowledge in documentation, like in every other Gentoo documentation (or should I say in every good documentation whatsoever), will be greatly appreciated by all your obedient servants, Gentoo users.
OK, better late than never... :] I've added a bit of text.
Thank you! I was harsh in last comment, sorry for that:)
