Created attachment 271947 [details, diff] Adds Gentoo/FreeBSD logo to doc/en/gentoo-freebsd.xml I have permission from Diego to add it. Please apply the patch.
The patch is trivial, please apply or comment on its deficiencies. Thanks!
The guide is probably being pulled or marked "out of date/unmaintained," because it's so ancient. Most likely the former. We need an updated version for FreeBSD8 or whatever it is G/FBSD is using these days. There's no point in adding logos (which we haven't done for any other document, actually) if the guide is just going to be removed.
I don't see why some possible later action on that article is a reason against applying a dead-simple patch now that you have not criticized content-wise. Reasons to apply the patch: - It makes the page look better while it's still there - It helps spreading the revived artwork project though its link - It gives long overdue credit to the original artist - The logo is shown on <http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/bsd/fbsd/>, too. The only difference is that that's project space. I see that you want to be a quality gatekeeper on some content but standing in the way with this patch doesn't help anything, especially not quality. Please apply my patch so we can I forget this and move on.
Ping? Please, please!
GDP members, by which I mostly mean me, get to bugs when they have time and inclination. Repeated bumps of a bug don't usually help, y'know! Anyway, I added the logo, although I moved it down to the "what is gentoo/freebsd" paragraph, since otherwise it might confuse users into thinking that it's the actual FreeBSD logo if it appeared in the "what is freebsd" paragraph. Fixed in CVS; should show up on the mirrors within an hour.
I don't really share that logic. The major title -- visibly shown in bold -- is "A short guide to Gentoo/FreeBSD" after all. I don't see any chance of mixing it up with FreeBSD and I think the logo is rather displaced in the middle where it is.
