Here's some suggestions what useflags we could add to the make.conf of the desktop/kde profile. Note: we're NOT talking about FORCING, but about providing a pleasant and sensible DEFAULT SETTING... Not really thought through in detail, but let's start discussing :) cups: who has a desktop wants to print :) dri: might make sense since KDE is way shinier with desktop effects -gnome: why not not?! -hal: definitely (but that flag might go away anyway) nsplugin pam: needed for automounting/consolekit etc phonon semantic-desktop: yes, most people might want it (also as it's needed for kdepim) xcomposite: see dri xscreensaver: it definitely adds value to the screensaver :) With these I have no idea how they affect KDE: session ??? inotify ???
I agree to all of them. Did you check if any of them are already present in a parent profile?
I'd like to add qt (and maybe other related qt flags?)
also add xinerama, most users sometimes plug another screen
On a second thought -gnome is unrelated, the point of the kde subprofile is to add/remove kde specific features. gtk/gnome is completely unrelated to our ebuilds. Part of my make.conf # KDE USE="$USE addressbook akonadi assistant attica clucene declarative handbook kde kate okular kipi multimedia okteta phonon plasma private-headers qalculate qimageblitz qscintilla qt qt3support qt4 -qt-static qthelp qwt raster reports semantic-desktop solver xmlpatterns"
I think no flags should be set in desktop/kde which are not KDE specific. They should be put into desktop rather. However I ask for the following addition to package.use as "emerge kde-meta" on a fresh stage3 with desktop/kde profile currently aborts due to unmet USE dependencies: dev-python/PyQt4 declarative
This is a good topic for next kde meeting. (Only the kde subprofile.)
Result of the kde team meeting: "declarative dri kipi phonon plasma semantic-desktop xcomposite xinerama xscreensaver"
(In reply to comment #7) > Result of the kde team meeting: > > "declarative dri kipi phonon plasma semantic-desktop xcomposite xinerama > xscreensaver" Added to the profile make.defaults.
