Following up on Bug 341385, Comment #11. Somehow Catalyst is removing static libraries for some targets while it shouldn't.
Comment 1 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2011-06-25 21:21:02 UTC
Please provide more details. What kind of target are you trying to build? have you checked keys like stage4/rm in your spec file?
Comment 2 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-06-01 09:48:34 UTC
no activity (from me) in a year here. no access to the system I had the problem with.
this was something about catalyst deleting .a files for certain targets too greedily. wouldn't hurt to review that code.
anyway, sorry for the noise, closing

I found a workaround here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-942992.html

This workaround patches sysvinit, but doesn't address the underlying catalyst issue [1]. Since a sysvinit patch hasn't been accepted [2], we need to figure out how to fix catalyst. I've got a reproducable crash [3] if anyone has ideas for me to test.

This was fixed multiple version ago in catalyst. Please try new livecd and/or stages and reopen if it is reproducible.
