build failed with -j<N>, N>=2 on 2 systems here and succeeded with empty MAKELAGS.

libpcre-4.4 is available for testing for more archs. Please test that as I can't reproduce the problem on ~x86. Also, please include 'emerge info' next time so I know what  arch you're talking about.
