Some configure script of openoffice requires the older versions of libwpd and libwpg to install (the deps should be fixed). They are two separate bugs in fact, but very similar. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install libwpd-0.9.1 and libwpg-0.2.0. 2. Uninstall older versions of the above. 3. Try to install openoffice-3.2.1-r1. Actual Results: Instal of openoffice fails during some (not the first) configure script with: [...] checking for libwpd-0.8 ... Package libwpd-0.8 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libwpd-0.8.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'libwpd-0.8' found configure: error: Library requirements (libwpd-0.8 ) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. make: *** [stamp/build] Error 1 [...] or with [...] checking for libwpg-0.1 ... Package libwpg-0.1 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libwpg-0.1.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'libwpg-0.1' found configure: error: Library requirements (libwpg-0.1 ) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. make: *** [stamp/build] Error 1 [...]
Created attachment 271157 [details, diff] patch fixing the dependencis Restricting the dependecies to the older slots of libwpd and libwpg obviously solves the problem.

Is this expected to be a final fix or just a workaround? I have same issue, have libwpd-0.9.1 installed. I am not sure I want yet another version of libwpd installed on my system, but if there is not other way ...;)
Just a note: this issue is fixed in the openoffice fork, libreoffice (which is now at version 3.3.2, by the way). Openoffice development may or may not be dead for good (see bug 359861 for some more info).
As said before in other bugs: Please move to app-office/libreoffice, more recent and app-office/openoffice is basically dead.
It would be fine to fix the oo ebuild in portage, since it need not to be dead for good and the fix is trivial. Btw libre *at the moment* bundles the libs, so there is no need for system ones at all. Personally, I am going to move to libre when the libs are unbundled (or oo is removed definitely, of course). But I will miss the Oracle logo ;)

But I will miss the Oracle logo ;) OOo in portage has open security problems. So yes - it NEEDS to die.

Just migrate to libreoffice, it works with latest wpg/wpd. openoffice are masked for removal.
