There is a fork of rdesktop called FreeRDC that recently entered the tree through bug #322967. It is backward compatible with rdesktop and it appears to be undergoing faster development. It would be great if KRDC could use FreeRDC in place of rdesktop. There appears to be an upstream bug with this request, but I thought I would file one with Gentoo to inform the talented people we have here about the possibility of doing this: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248896
Sure, let's track the upstream bug...
There's not really much productive going on on the upstream bug. I guess keeping this report here open forever makes no sense. Once someone upstream does the work we'll for sure support it.
Created attachment 324400 [details, diff] all nessesary files from KDE trunk
Created attachment 324402 [details] krdc ebuild with freerdp
I found a update for the upstream: https://svn.reviewboard.kde.org/r/6978/ May be anyone is interested to test, please download the attachments and try it in a local overlay. The ebuild contains only one line more to add freerdp support, but no USE flag and dependency information yet. If you test, you know what you are doing... For me on amd64 the plugin is working, not perfect but better than rdesktop. Connections to Windows 7 are faster and stable, Win Server 2008 R2 is usabel too too.
