using the 1.4 live cd for the g4, the kernel dies at startup. The last set of messages are prom_print messages (sorry no screen scrap available but you kernel types will know what I'm talking about). I would "guess" that the kernel isn't built SMP and/or support for the radeon 9000 isn't built in. I have a hard time thinking the later would be true. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot from 1.4 live cd 2. hot flaming death 3. Actual Results: smoking crater.... Expected Results: boot into live cd's ramdisk
The same thing happens on my PowerBook (15.2in, 847MHz G4, 512 ram). I also cannot read the error before the screen blanks.
Lets nag Pieter about it ;)
As a datapoint the 2004.0 livecd does get further, in that it's up to init before it freezes hard. SMP support is obviously off with the g3g4.iso
For 2004.0/ppc I'll put both an SMP and a non-SMP kernel on the cds. This wasn't possible with the ppc livecd scripts, but genkernel/catalyst has made this possible.
2004.0 has SMP support.
