I use ALSA both on a 2.4 and a 2.6 kernel. Until recently I was completely satisfied with it, while using my built-in SIS7012 audio controller (intel8x0 driver). Now that I have added a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy LS I find ALSA unable to recognize it, although the driver is supposed to support both Audigy and Audigy 2. With ALSA built-in (2.6 kernel) the Audigy just doesn't show up in the ALSA device list (the SIS7012 does); with ALSA compiled as module (2.4 kernel) an insmod error results, while trying to load snd-emu10k1. Again, the snd-intel8x0 module loads without problems. I was unable to contact the emu10k1 developer, R. Sousa, on this (maybe I shouldn't even have tried). Damn! It's not gonna work, I fear now. I did some additional googling and found this mail by Jaroslav Kysela himself: http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net/msg10774.html Any comments?
I had contact with Creative support: negative. However they suggested to drop a mail with Creative's developers. I'm awaiting their response.

I have datasheets. People are welcome to try my latest open source alsa drivers for the Audigy LS/SB Live 24bit cards at: http://www.alsa-project.org/~james/alsa-driver/audigyls.0.0.18.tar.bz2 Once I get some feedback on 0.0.18, I will get it added to alsa cvs. Is should playback, but capture might be a problem.
Audigy LS seems to be supported in the latest kernel (2.6.11-gentoo-r4). I am currently investigating whether it works...
It's called ca0106 instead of audigyls as it was called for a while in ALSA. The chip is recognized but the sound is "buggy". I need an ALSA expert probably to get it working as it should...
Your best bet is to work with the upstream developers on this as I don't have the card.
(In reply to comment #7) > It's called ca0106 instead of audigyls as it was called for a while in ALSA. > The chip is recognized but the sound is "buggy". I need an ALSA expert probably > to get it working as it should... > ca0106 is indeed the driver for Audigy LS with serial number SB0570, but the sound is completely distorted (white noise on the speakers). In the ALSA mixer I found out it's a due to the 'analog front' audio channel. Somehow, sometimes it jsut worked fine for me, but most of the times I get this terrible noise. Up until now, I will just wait until it's fixed by the developers, on the ALSA sound card matrix it's also mentioned.
