Comment 1 Thomas Kahle (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-17 12:09:14 UTC
This seems to be a regression with dev-libs/protobuf-2.4.0a. Works fine with dev-libs/protobuf-2.3.0-r1.

We are expecting a revbump to .4 within the next couple days. I will test that against the new protobuf. In the meantime, I will change the depend of .3
Comment 3 Dane Smith (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-18 14:35:37 UTC
Fix in CVS with both 0.2 and 0.3. I will deal with any continuing problems in the bump to 0.4 due this week.

Thanks!
Comment 4 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-18 14:47:25 UTC
The bug is not solved at all.

- protobuf is not slotted
- it's illegal to force downgrade of non-slotted package in the same stabilization level
Comment 5 Dane Smith (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-18 18:15:44 UTC
Changes are reverted in both .2 and .3. I'm working with upstream on a proper resolution. Thanks for catching this.

Just to make sure I'm clear, the issue was that amd64 had stabled protobuf-2.4.0, correct? (I hadn't noticed this at the time of the change) I thought I was safe to force the potential downgrade for people who were running ~arch protobuf and arch ostinato. Am I wrong in this? Or was my initial thought correct despite the fail on my part to check protobuf.
Comment 6 Dane Smith (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-19 13:59:22 UTC
You can disregard my earlier question. I figured it out myself. I was being stupid =P. Coffee and sleep fixed that.

Added a patch to fix ostinato with protobuf-2.4.0a. Should be ok to stabilize that now. Sorry for the snafu.

Reclosing.
