Description sergamena 2011-04-14 08:34:12 UTC
Nautilus doesn't start with Gnome as in standard mode (gnome-shell) as in fallback mode. And when I start one in standard mode, X crashes with Segmentation Fault. If I start it from command line with option --no-desktop it doesn't happens. And in fallback mode it doesn't happen too.

Reproducible: Always

/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

In /var/log/Xorg.0.log wasn't any errors. As I understand, it's rewritten on every X restart.

Comment 4 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-14 12:30:20 UTC
please do not use cflags such a -O3, they are not supported by the gnome herd, nor upstream.
Comment 5 sergamena 2011-04-15 19:49:11 UTC
OK, I set CFLAGS to "-O2 -march=native -pipe"
I rebuilt nautilus, gnome-shell, gjs, xulrunner, xorg-server, xf86-video-intel gnome-session, gnome-desktop, glib, gtk+, cairo, pango, clutter, mutter, upower, gnome-power-manager and gnome-settings-daemon.
Crashes still occur.
What else should I rebuild to stop them?
Comment 6 Nirbheek Chauhan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-16 06:17:55 UTC
Nautilus is not a part of the default startup anymore, so the only bug here is the crasher.
Comment 7 sergamena 2011-04-16 18:59:48 UTC
Update: Crash occurs only when both draw-background and show-desktop-icons keys from dconf schema org.gnome.desktop.background are set to true.

strace nautilus -o nautilus.strace

I too experience this problem (glad to hear it's not just me). I don't have any -O3 in my CFLAGS.

This is an intel driver, no xorg.conf. No core dump or anything. Strace attached.

Comment 9 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-05-16 06:13:13 UTC
I used to experience this crash with nautilus-3.0.0 on a machine with Intel graphics, but it was apparently fixed either by either the nautilus-3.0.1 or the 3.0.1.1 update.

Are you still having the same problem with the latest version of nautilus (3.0.1.1 at the moment)?
Comment 10 sergamena 2011-05-23 15:00:37 UTC
Yes, I stil experience X server crashes, when start nautilus with enabled show-desktop-icons dconf key.
Comment 11 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2011-09-22 15:44:15 UTC
Still valid with 3.0.2 in the tree?

Not here. Can probably be closed (although I didn't open it)
