Description Amit Prakash Ambasta 2011-04-11 10:09:08 UTC
Since I've installed gnome 3, which is bundled with network-manager, I have been unable to store wireless network settings [ automatic dhcp address only with manual DNS ] or reconnect automatically to the network on boot.

Further analysis of /var/log/messages shows
Apr 11 14:12:27 localhost NetworkManager[2508]: SCPlugin-Ifnet: Found error: Ifnet plugin: can't aquire ip configuration for 0x74696B6F6E61203138303032303930303434
Apr 11 14:11:55 localhost dbus-daemon: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.33" (uid=1000 pid=3198 comm="/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon ") interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination=":1.3" (uid=0 pid=2582 comm="/usr/sbin/console-kit-dae

Finally, ck-list-sessions shows login-session-id to be blank.. http://paste.pocoo.org/show/369522/

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge gnome 3 from gnome overlay
2. Login into gnome 3 , connect to wireless network, modify settings etc
3. Reboot and login into gnome 3
Actual Results:
network-manager neither attempts to reconnect to wireless nor remember settings for the wireless on manually connecting

Expected Results:
network-manager should not only reconnect to the wireless network specified in settings but also remember any specific settings [ manual IP, DHCP address only, DNS etc]

You don't mention your wireless driver or whether you are using 'iwconfig' and 'wireless-tools' or what kernel you are using All of that information could be relevant As well you should post your 'emerge --info' .Also if you use wpa_supplicant-

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/wpa_supplicant

There are some pertinent facts there. See the portion about changing /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/fi.epitest.hostap.WPASupplicant.service This particular part of the kernel is changing a lot with 'iw' 'wireless-regdb' and 'crda' being in the portage tree and in my expectation at least will replace iwconfig and wireless-tools

Just a user trying to help so this can all be safely ignored as well

I have left networkmanager to decide what tools are needed [ iwconfig wpa_supplicant etc]

However equery depends wpa_supplicant shows:
* These packages depend on wpa_supplicant:
gnome-extra/nm-applet-0.8.998 (>=net-wireless/wpa_supplicant-0.5.7)
net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.998 (>=net-wireless/wpa_supplicant-0.7.3-r3[dbus])

the dbus statement had been modified accordingly. CONFIG_CTRL_IFACE_DBUS=y etc should be handled by ebuild/use flags

This bug affects me, too, but on x86_64 linux

There's my $(emerge --info): http://dpaste.com/530962/

Not sure what, but a later overlay sync followed by subsequent emerge fixed the issue

Hi guys,

I had the same problem. For me disabling the 'ifnet' plugin in /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf solved it. Now networkmanager stores connection specific information in files in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/

Below are the contents of my /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf :

[main]
#plugins=ifnet,keyfile
plugins=keyfile

[ifnet]
managed=true
auto_refresh=false

Still valid with latest versions from main tree?
