We have migrated to a new server, so I'll look into this. 
The new server has 16 cores, 50GB of mem and a 10TBit connection.

They're at 5 and 8 hours now, which is much better but still seems kind of slow, or is that the intended update interval?

4 hours is the intended update interval. Seems spotty, but I'll resolve this for now.
