I wanted to install HPLIP which pulled dev-python/notify-python-0.1.1-r2 as a dependency. dev-python/notify-python-0.1.1-r2 failed to compile. I ran revdep-rebuild, but that did not help. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge notify-python 2. 3. As the error is: In file included from pynotifymodule.c:2: /usr/include/pygtk-2.0/pygtk/pygtk.h:8:21: error: gtk/gtk.h: No such file or directory it seems something fails on pkg-config side. Does config.log provide any hints ?
Hi Rafal There is no config.log generated. I'm not very farmiliar with how GTK works; is gtk+-2.0 backwords compatible with gtk/gtk+? I tried to run pkg-config with the following results: # pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0 -pthread -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -latk-1.0 -lgio-2.0 -lpangoft2-1.0 -lpangocairo-1.0 -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lm -lcairo -lpng14 -lpango-1.0 -lfreetype -lfontconfig -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lgthread-2.0 -lrt -lglib-2.0 # pkg-config --libs gtk+ sh: gtk-config: command not found sh: gtk-config: command not found sh: gtk-config: command not found # pkg-config --libs gtk Package gtk was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk' found Does any of the above point to anything obvious or relevant at all? Thanks
Try 'pkg-config pygtk-2.0 libnotify --cflags'. config.log is generated, look again.
Out put from pkg-config pygtk-2.0 libnotify --cflags is below. # pkg-config pygtk-2.0 libnotify --cflags -pthread -I/usr/include/pygtk-2.0 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0 -I/usr/include/libpng14 I still can't find config.log though. It's not in the present directory and locate doesn't turn anything up on the system. Where should it be logged?
Created attachment 268369 [details] config.log Nevermind, I found it. Attached config.log for further troubleshooting
(In reply to comment #5) > Out put from pkg-config pygtk-2.0 libnotify --cflags is below. > > # pkg-config pygtk-2.0 libnotify --cflags > -pthread -I/usr/include/pygtk-2.0 -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 > -I/usr/lib64/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0 > -I/usr/include/libpng14 > That's significantly shorter than it's supposed to be. I.e. in pygtk-2.0.pc pkg-config file there should be an entry Requires: pygobject-2.0 gtk+-2.0 which should result in correct cflags, but for you, it does not.
Upgrading pygtk and pygobject to the latest versions resolved the problem. dev-python/pygobject-2.26.0-r1 [2.20.0] dev-python/pygtk-2.22.0-r1 [2.17.0] notify-python-0.1.1-r2 compiled and installed after upgrading those to the latest. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
