I have just emerged emptytree world and noticed this package will not emerge successfully if j is set to more than 1 but emerges successfully every time with -j1. I believe it should be set in the ebuild.

I can sort of confirm this error on ~amd64, gcc-4.5.2. I do not see the stat error, but instead I had a compile error which was resolved by using -j1. Here is an excerpt of the failed build:
