patch adding gentoo support for the versions of ack in the current tree

Ack does not know gentoo filetypes and therefore can not be "just" used on a portage tree. One could add the filetype in .ackrc or always match all files "-a". But on a gentoo system support for gentoo filetypes should be supported. Maybe this is also something to report upstream.

this may be considered a branding and depend on the USE flag for that
