app-accessibility/speechd-0.56-r2 installs speechd init script that depend() { need festival } Howerver festival init script has been droped in app-accessibility/festival-2.1 per bug #357381.
The festival init script was dropped due to several security issues as were listed in that bug. My thought is that we need to have speechd be able to support festival this way or remove speechd from the tree. Does anyone else have any comments?
A known upstream issue, see: <https://its.freebsoft.org/its/issues/4206>
Actually, comment #2 doesn't apply, speechd is not speech-dispatcher, but app-accessibility/speechd.
Oh. Sorry for comment #2. I kept confusing speechd and Speech Dispatcher. Anyway, speechd hasn't been touched since 2001 or 2002, has it? Is anyone actually using it? In other words, is there much reason to hold on to it?
As far as I am concerned, we can give this package last rights and remove it.
I also confused those 2 sometimes... Old speechd I'm not using anymore but speech-dispatcher. So I created Bug 365667 - app-accessibility/speech-dispatcher-0.7.1-r1 init.d script needs non-existing festival init script
(In reply to comment #5) > As far as I am concerned, we can give this package last rights and > remove it. Let's do it. Last version came on 2003.
This package has been removed from portage.
