Description Axel Reimann 2003-12-15 09:14:01 UTC
I've got the very same problem as some Debian folks:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200205/msg00795.html

In my case the hang occurs when selecting the exact printer model / driver.
The cupsd chews up some 85% CPU time and hangs.

can you fill a bug on http://www.cups.org/str.php please
Comment 2 Axel Reimann 2003-12-16 11:55:32 UTC
Sure, did that right away. The assigned STR number is 490.
Comment 3 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-16 12:28:54 UTC
you can try to set your CFLAGS to -O3 -march=yourcputype, remerge cups and try again
Comment 4 Axel Reimann 2003-12-17 00:08:34 UTC
That's what I always use on the affected machine. (I prefer conservative settings on my server.) The only additional argument in use is -pipe, but that shouldn't change the compilation result in any way.
Comment 5 Axel Reimann 2003-12-19 10:41:01 UTC
For whatever reason I can circumvent the problem setting the ServerName to localhost in cupsd.conf.
Comment 6 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-17 09:44:16 UTC
but it's an upstream bug

Comment 8 Marc Bodmer 2004-06-28 13:45:14 UTC
I have a very similar problem (same?). But it cannot be solved by setting "serverName" to "localhost".
After adding the printer (Magicolor2300DL, IPP) in the web admin the site
is hanging when going back to the printer. In gnome-cups-manager the printer
is shown and can be removed. But when printing a test page in gnome-cups-manager
it is showing client-error-charset-not-supported. I've checked the printers
charset... UTF-8, see attached file (Printer IPP File).
I have no idea ... remerging doesn't solve this problem.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem here. Unfortunately, setting ServerName to localhost does not help anymore. I tried to recompile cups without ssl, slp and pam stuff, but the problem remained. I then removed anything than contains some bug file system hierarchy file such as media-gfx/gimp-print net-print/foomatic-filters app-text/ghostscript-esp and recompile cups without any success.

So, I cannot add a printer (mine is an HP Laserjet 6L) using the web interface nor the kprint system, and so I cannot print at all...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

regards.
