Description Marco Napetti 2011-03-13 13:32:36 UTC
Excuse me if I open a bug report for this, maybe it's only a config error, but I don't know where to post this and receive an answer.
I already posted this on the forum, without results: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-868563.html
And I've seen also this: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-855295.html

As you can read on my post on the forum, when lircd is stopped I can see pressed button codes with "cat /dev/snd/midiC0D1", but when lircd is started cat doesn't show anything and the same is for irw.

I've added the line "options snd-emu10k1 enable_ir=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf, the line "LIRCD_OPTS="-H livedrive_midi -d /dev/snd/midiC0D1"" to /etc/conf.d/lircd and the line "echo -en "\xf0\x00\x20\x21\x61\x00\x00\x00\x7f\x00\xf7" > /dev/snd/midiC0D1" to /etc/conf.d/local

IMHO, the core of the problem is on lirc decoding of signals, because irrecord generates a config file with all buttons mapped as 0x00000000 (I'll attach the generated file)
Maybe I'm missing some kernel module or option? (I'll attach also kernel .config)

Reproducible: Always

As described on this page: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10828095#post10828095
Lirc doesn't works if compiled with >gcc-4.4

I switched back to gcc-4.4.5 and rebuild lirc and now my remote works fine.
Comment 4 Ian Stakenvicius (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-18 13:02:44 UTC
Could you please re-test with lirc-0.9.0-r1 and see if you still have these runtime issues?
Comment 5 Richard Hering 2012-09-17 00:04:23 UTC
I tested with app-misc/lirc-0.9.0-r2

compiled with 4.5.4: remote doesn't work
compiled with 4.4.7: remote work
Comment 6 Craig Andrews gentoo-dev 2016-07-31 22:25:59 UTC
Can you please test again using app-misc/lirc-0.9.4 and/or a more modern GCC?
Comment 7 Craig Andrews gentoo-dev 2016-12-18 02:02:58 UTC
Please test with the latest version of lirc in the Gentoo tree and modern GCC and report back if there's a problem.
