With octave-3.2.4-r<n>,
octave-config -p OCTINCLUDEDIR
produced
/usr/include/octave-3.2.4
and a program containing
#include <octave/oct.h>
succeeds. In octave-3.4.0, the same command produces
/usr/include/octave-3.4.0/octave
instead, and all such programs fail to find oct.h. Is this change intentional? A trivial fix to the mathgl's configure.ac will repair the build with octave-3.4.0, but break it for 3.2.4. Is it possible to ensure that the results of
octave-config -p OCTINCLUDEDIR
are consistent in all versions of octave?

Upstream chaged the default value of this variable:
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/diff/0d4613a736e9/configure.ac#l1.33

I'd recommend to contact mathgl upstream and ask them to change the includes.

Hi Rafael,

almost three weeks later. Any news?

Hi Juergen, don't you like to step up as a dev and repair the packages yourself?
Comment 6 Andrey Grozin gentoo-dev 2011-03-29 15:57:25 UTC
The octave interface is being built only with USE=octave.

Octave developers have made an incompatible change in octave-config, and now all packages wanting to #include <octave/oct.h> should change their configure.ac to compensate this change. This is a trivial 1-line patch, and I've done it.

But the program mgl_octave.cpp generated by swig -octave does not compile. So, I conclude that swig-2.0.2 is not up to supporting >=octave-3.4.

For now I have masked the octave support in mathgl, and bumped it to 1.11.1.1.

I'm not the mathgl maintainer, I just give the hint :)

yeah.

jurgen please let me know if you need help to join us as dev. :)

thanks
