Description Joakim 2011-03-10 12:09:41 UTC
After emerging bash-4.2_p7 inside an openvz virtual container the command from host node

# vzctl enter VC_ID

no longer works, it simply makes the console "hang" in "no mans land", without reaching the command prompt of the container. The only way out is Ctrl+C

The upgrade was from bash-4.1_p10 so the problem can of course be anyware between these ebuilds. I'm absolutely sure though that it's the update of bash causing this as I explicitly tested on a container only emerging that ebuild.

Apart from that the container seem to run normally and and active services like www, mail etc. works and are accessible from outside (luckily), but it's impossible to get in to the shell and do something. Only way in is through the physical container path from the host node, but that way I cannot run anything like downgrading bash.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. host# vzctl enter 103
2. vc_103# emerge -u system
3. vc_103# exit
4. host# vzctl enter 103
Actual Results:
5.
coursor just move to next line in consol, being blank

Expected Results:
5. vc_103#

I have recompiled every host node package this way,

# emerge -e system
# emerge -e system
# emerge -e world

just to be sure, and containers was/is up to date.

Comment 1 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2011-03-10 17:51:59 UTC
Could this be a regression with bash or might openvz tools need to be updated?
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2011-03-10 20:36:48 UTC
someone on the VZ side will need to debug. ive never used openvz before nor do i have any clue how to reproduce this.
Comment 3 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-11 09:42:02 UTC
If I'm not toally wrong a similar problem was already reported to the bash-bug mailing list.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2011-03-15 19:16:23 UTC
looks like a bug in openvz after all
Comment 5 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-22 15:15:48 UTC
I'll bump vzctl ASAP.
Comment 6 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-03-22 16:28:29 UTC
Should be fixed in vzctl-3.0.26.2. Thank you guys!
