When emerging Ekiga with USE=gebug the debuging of GTK and OPAL are enabled. But in this way emerge fails with "../../lib/gui/gmlevelmeter.c:292: warning: implicit declaration of function 'gdk_gc_new'" and others. So there are 2 issues: 1. Split debug into debug opal and debug gtk 2. Fix emerging with debug gtk. Reproducible: Always

Same here, willing to test. USE=-debug compiles OK. Deleting the following line from the ekiga-3.2.7.ebuild allows the emerging: $(use_enable debug gtk-debug) So, I guess it is something with gtk-debug only. Do we need to request other ebuilds with USE=debug and which ones?

As Kalin KOZHUHAROV said, deleting the line: $(use_enable debug gtk-debug) from the ebuild allows to use debug USE flag. For ekiga debug USE flag is crucial when setting networking and seeing what's doing and get settings properly with asterisk, as ekiga doesn't have a useful verbose terminal option.

It seems it has to do with older GTK version. Just found that 2010 June patch was reverted here: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2010-October/msg02693.html I don't quite understand why.
It has been some months and this bug bit me today again (on another machine)... After some long searching I hit this bug page and saw that I have commented already :-| and so completely purged it off my mind. For the short term, can somebody commit my comment#4 (delete one line in the ebuild)? And add a comment with reference to this bug, in case there is a problem. I have been running like that for a few months in two systems - no problem so far.
I can confirm the solution from comment#4. Builds and runs with debug use flag.
Looks like it's passing *DISABLE_DEPRECATED* flags when building with gtk debugging, that should be prevented (with sedding probably ;)) and maybe it solves this build issue
