Description Colleen 2011-03-02 02:20:49 UTC
net-fs/openafs-1.4.14 crashes upon service start if AUDITSYSCALL is enabled in kernel 2.6.36-r5

It is fully functional if AUDIDSYSCALL is not enabled.

If I have it start at boot, the system hangs while booting. If I start it in an XFCE session, the session freezes, and requires a hard-restart.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.enable AUDITSYSCALL & compile kernel
2.install openafs-1.4.14
3./etc/init.d/openafs-client start

Actual Results:
Hangs system at "starting openafs daemon" step

Expected Results:
Openafs starts

Comment 3 Andrej Filipcic 2011-03-05 14:43:52 UTC
I have AUDITSYSCALL enabled on several kernels (2.6.32, 2.6.34, 2.6.37) and never experienced any problems with it. The problem might be somewhere else.

Could you start the openafs service in the console and try to find out what really happens? oops, freeze, ...

You can also try to "modprobe libafs" to see if it freezes the system.

Loading the module goes fine, but it always does. The point at which it freezes is at "Starting the OpenAFS Daemon", which happens both in console and on boot.
Comment 5 Colleen 2011-03-05 19:01:48 UTC
Also possibly of note is that CPU usage goes up astronomically (and stays up) when starting the service freezes.
Comment 6 Andrew Savchenko gentoo-dev 2015-03-22 21:17:27 UTC
Please test with 1.6.11 (I have no kernels with audit enabled to test).
Comment 7 Andrew Savchenko gentoo-dev 2015-05-01 08:27:32 UTC
Feel free to reopen if the issue is still present in 1.6.11.
