I'm wondering why in the official git commit http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/commit/?id=65f02cc203dde5732b035ed093e861da0480bd9e this diff is announced :

wheras teh NEWS file /usr/share/doc/poppler-0.16.3/NEWS.bz2 seem sto have to entries with "Release 0.16.2" ...

Why indeed, [1] does have the older version listed in NEWS.

Yeah, fortunately the rest of tarball contents is fine (ack from upstream) - so no need to repack imho.
